It has been 4 weeks since I retired on July 5th and I have to say I am enjoying myself.

I haven’t had any difficulty filling my days, “Honey Do” project, my own projects, working at my church, etc. It has only been 4 weeks and I know that once I get some of these things finished, I will need to get into a routine. BUT for right now all is good!

My original retirement date was June 7th. My boss had interviewed several people and hired my replacement who was going to work with me for 3 weeks. Everything was working out great until the Sunday before I retired. I get a phone call from my boss who told me that my replacement had died suddenly that evening.

This event shook me to the core. This person and I had grown close in the 2 weeks we worked together. They were learning quickly and were able to handle all the basic aspects of my job. I felt so bad for his parents and his family.

Now, I wasn’t going to leave my boss in a jam, so I offered to stay another month and hopefully have someone in place by the time I left. Well, for one reason or another that did not happen but I really couldn’t change my retirement date again.

So my last day of work was July 3rd and I used a vacation day on the 5th to finish the week.

On my last day, the other people in my office had a small party. Invited people who worked in the building for cake and ice cream. It was very nice and I certainly appreciated all of the kind words and cards.

So here I am, entering into a new phase of life, a little uncertain where I am going or what I will do but I look forward to the future and what may come.
