It has been an interesting few weeks since I attended WordCamp Columbus on August 2, 2014 and it seems like a lot of Random WordPress  events have caught my attention.

WordCamp Columbus

I understand that some people have offered to help Angie Meeker with the organizing of next years WordCamp Columbus. Great news! This was the very first camp I attended in 2010 and I was  hooked! I would hate to see this event fade away.

WordCamp Ann Arbor

WordCamp Ann Arbor is being held on October 4, 2014 and I am attending. This will  be the 4th WordCamp for me this year! The schedule of sessions was just recently published and can be seen here: http://2014.annarbor.wordcamp.org/event/schedule/. Looks like some great sessions and just a short 5 hour drive for me!

WordPress TV

I have been a moderator for WordPress TV for just over 3 months now and it has been a learning experience! I still consider myself a noob because there are some great people on the ModSquad. According to WordCamp Central – About, the first WordCamp was held in 2006. Since that time 342 camps have been held in 48 countries and 142 cities. I would like to find a list of how many WordCamps have been held each year. WordPress TV was started in 2009 and with more camps being held, the videos seem to roll in at a steady pace. So, I spend 2 or 3 hours a week moderating videos. I have even been able to work on some foreign language videos.

Good Reads!

Jeff Chandler of WP Tavern had an interesting post called A Survival Guide To WordCamps For First Time Attendees. Jeff talks about how easy it is to remain in your “comfort zone” and hangout with people you know and not make an effort to meet new people. I have the same issue myself and struggle to be more outgoing.

Also, Nile Flores of blondish.net had a post in which she discusses Children Using WordPress: How Can Parents Keep Kids Safe. Keeping children safe on the internet has been an interest of mine for several years. I have a mentally handicapped son and I worry about him using the internet. I also have a 7 year old granddaughter who is growing up in the age of social media, sexual predators on the internet and cyber bullying. I know some law enforcement officers who are involved in catching online sexual predators. The internet can be a scary place and a concern for parents (and grandparents). It is good to see that people who are involved in the WordPress community are keeping children in mind as they go about their business
