WordCamp Columbus

WordCamp Columbus

WordCamp Columbus is just a month away and I have my presentation pretty much ready to go. I will spend the next week or two fine tuning it.  Trying to speak without rushing is a problem I have so I am practicing and forcing myself to slow down. Speaking at WordCamp Dayton & WordCamp North Canton taught me lot, so I am taking the comments I received and putting them to good use.

Jeff Chandler of WPTavern will be the keynote speaker and I am really looking forward to hear what he has to say. Jeff is one of the first WordPress people I started to follow in 2010 and he got me in touch with Angie Meeker who gave me my first chance to speak at WordCamp Columbus 2011.

Looking over the list of speakers and sessions, I can see that this is going to be another great WordCamp! This will be the third WordCamp in Ohio in 2014 which is amazing to me. Networking (read that as making new friends) is a big part of WordCamps.

WordPress TV

On a side note, after I spoke at WordCamp Dayton, I was looking for a way to volunteer some time to WordPress (a few hours a month). I finally ran across something on the WordPress TV site that said a person could volunteer to be a video moderator. If you aren’t aware, WordPress sends 3 or 4 camcorders to each WordCamp and the organizers set these up in the room where sessions are being presented. Afterwards these videos are edited and uploaded to the WordPress TV site for moderation. Videos are then reviewed for sound and video quality, speaker information, slides, description, etc. The videos are then scheduled for publication, usually 3 a day. I have had a great time so far and am happy that I found a way to give back to the community.

Google Doodles

On July 1st, I happened to notice the Google Doodle as seen above. Google has been using soccer related animated GIF’s during the World Cup and of course, they are pretty cute. You can see the Doodles here: http://www.google.com/doodles/world-cup-2014-15
