It’s nice to see someone that is excited. It’s GREAT to see someone who is excited about WordPress.

A few weeks ago, I contacted a local graphic designer to have some images created for my work website (WordPress powered, of course). Working for a county government agency, I try to do as business locally as I can. During the course of our email conversations, she asked if I knew anything about WordPress. Bingo!

We arranged to meet at a local coffee house. I made it very clear that I was a WordPress user and not a developer. I brought along a couple of WordPress related books and a list of websites that I thought would be good for a beginner for tips. We were about 30 seconds into our conversation when she asked about WordCamp Dayton. When I told her about the WordCamps in Columbus and North Canton she got really excited.

We had a fantastic meeting. We talked about webhosting, wordpress.com and wordpress.org, themes and plugins, paid and free. She had some great questions. I showed her several of the websites I maintain, the dashboard, widgets, menus, etc.

She was very impressed with the WordPress Codex and the websites featured in the Showcase on the WordPress site.

After almost 2 hours we both had to leave for other commitments but made plans to meet again. I had a great time showing this young lady some of the features of WordPress. Now please understand that I don’t consider myself a WordPress guru or the local ‘go to’ guy by any stretch of the imagination. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

This isn’t the first time I talked to someone about WordPress but it is the first time that I had talked with someone who was that excited. It was a great experience and I hope it happens again….soon!
