Ask and Ye Shall Receive is of course a phrase out of the Book of Matthew in the Bible. I take this to mean that if you ask for something in the proper manner, you “might” get an answer. I posed a question on the Facebook “All About WordPress” page and got several responses within a few minutes. I am always grateful when I get help on a WordPress question. That is why I am a big believer in giving back to the WordPress community by submitting to speak or volunteer at WordCamps.
WordPress Counter
I have seen the WordPress download counter but I did not know where it was located on the WP website. Well I saw the counter today on the WordPress download page and this is how you get there.
Changing the Default Category
One of the websites that I maintain using WordPress is my work site: www.belmontcountyengineer.com. I wanted to change the default category and was not sure how to do so. Easy enough, I was quick to find out. From the dashboard click on “Post” and then “Categories”
Go to Add New Category, type in a new category name, type in a slug then a description. The slug is what will appear in your website’s URL after your post is published.
After adding the new category name, go to the “Dashboard” – “Settings” then “Writing”. You can change the default category to the name you just added.
WordPress Help Sites
I am in the process of putting together a list of websites that offer tips on using WordPress. I have received a lot of suggestions and I will probably release these in two or three groups. If you would like to submit a site(s) please use the contact page to email me.
